Note from the Manager

Submissions for SIEF Research Projects - Round 4 Expressions of Interest (EoIs) closed on 23 July 2012. The response was impressive with 175 EoIs lodged. The SIEF Expert Panel has reviewed all EoIs and made its recommendations to the SIEF Advisory Council and Trustee; we expect to be notifying applicants of the outcomes shortly.

Selected EoIs will be invited to submit a full proposal, and this will be due at the end of October with the intention of notifying of final outcomes before Christmas.

SIEF Event 2012

On Tuesday 4 September 2012, the Science and Industry Endowment Fund held its annual Ceremony at Queens Hall, Parliament House, Victoria, to present the SIEF John Stocker Postgraduate Scholarships and Postdoctoral Fellowships, and acknowledge two new SIEF Programs: The Science and Industry Endowment Fund Australian Academy of Science Fellowships to the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, and the SIEF Special Research Program Synchrotron Science.

More information about the Event, including video footage and photographs, are available on the Webpage.

Synchrotron Science

The current intent of the SIEF Trustee, subject to a suitable funding agreement being executed, is to support a SIEF Special Research Program in Synchrotron Science ($10M over 4 years). Funding for the SIEF Special Research Program: Synchrotron Science will fill a gap in the National Innovation System by providing access for Australian Publicly Funded Research Agencies (PFRAs) to the Australian Synchrotron.

Lindau Fellowships

The best young Australian scientists will have the chance to be mentored by Nobel Prize winners, thanks to a new collaboration between the Science and Industry Endowment Fund and the Australian Academy of Science. From 2013, support for attendance at the annual meeting of Nobel Laureates at Lake Constance, Germany will be provided through the Science and Industry Endowment Fund Australian Academy of Science Fellowships to the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings
